9 Indoor Activities Locals Love in San Angelo, TX

Whether it’s 105° out or a surprise cold front hits, there’s more to do indoors in San Angelo than most folks realize. I’ve lived here a long time, and those ‘Top Indoor Activities’ lists? They always seem to miss a few local favorites.. So here’s my own list — a few crowd-pleasers, a few hidden gems, and a little something for everyone.

1. Wander the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts

If you haven’t been here in a while, it’s worth a visit. Admission is often free or low-cost, and the changing exhibits keep it fresh.

The building overlooks the river, which makes the whole place feel more scenic than you’d expect. Bonus: they’ve got interactive programs for kids and families, so it’s not just “quiet art on walls.”

2. Time Travel at Miss Hattie’s Bordello Museum

This place is small, strange, and kind of awesome. You get a guided tour that walks you through the history of San Angelo’s red-light district back in the day.

It’s PG-13 and more informative than scandalous. The building itself is cool and old-school, and the guides know their stuff.

3. Play Historian at the Railway Museum

This museum, located in the old Santa Fe Depot, features train memorabilia, vintage photos, and detailed model train displays.” Kids love pushing buttons, and adults get caught up in the local history. It’s open on weekends, and admission is donation-based, which makes it a great low-budget option.

4. Catch a Movie at Icon Cinema

Sometimes you want to zone out in a recliner with a bucket of popcorn. Icon is clean, comfortable, and offers all-you-can-eat popcorn with every ticket.

It’s especially great for families who don’t want to break the bank on snacks. They show all the big releases and some surprise throwbacks now and then.

5. Soak in Culture at Be Theatre or Angelo Civic Theatre

If you’re into live performance, these small but mighty theaters put on solid shows year-round. Local actors, local directors, and a lot of heart.

They do everything from Shakespeare to musicals to original shows. The vibe is relaxed, tickets are usually affordable, and the theaters are small enough that every seat feels close to the stage.

6. Reach for the Stars at the ASU Planetarium

Hidden on the Angelo State campus, this place puts on shows that take you through stars, galaxies, and science stuff in a way that’s actually fun.

The full-dome screen makes it feel like you just traveled through space. Shows are limited to specific days, so check ahead.

7. Shop Local at Eggemeyer’s General Store

Part old-fashioned general store, part local gift shop, Eggemeyer’s is a fun place to kill an hour indoors. You’ll find everything from hot sauces to quirky socks to vintage-style toys.

It smells like a mix of wood, fudge, and Texas nostalgia. Especially fun around the holidays, but worth browsing year-round.

8. Unplug Inside Stephens Central Library

Don’t sleep on the library. The downtown library has more than books — there are creative labs, community events, quiet spaces, and one of the best kids’ sections around. It’s also one of the best indoor places to sit, think, or work on something without distraction.

This is the kind of place where you and your friends argue over clues in the best possible way. You’re locked in a themed room with an hour to get out — using teamwork, logic, and whatever props you can find.

Think in a Box is locally built and operated, and every room has its own story and twists. It’s fun, fast-paced, and addictive. Great for groups, double dates, birthdays, or trying something new.
